Young Souls

Went to an exhibition opening of Dean Chalkley's photography the other night with Caz & Saz.

"Famed for his iconic portraits of the world’s brightest music stars and compelling snapshots of youth subcultures, Chalkley’s latest body of work is presented by Art, Fashion and Culture media title 125 magazine. View the Young Souls short film Working to a theme based around Religion, Chalkley’s Young Souls touches on the culture of Northern Soul".

After a couple of complimentary elderflower & lime ciders each, we were feeling a tad peckish and ended up in a delightful Italian bakery/restaurant on Wardour street, called Princi. The food was displayed and was a wondrous sight to behold. Mouthwatering cakes and delicious pizzas and other extras.

Was a fun night. Sarina was upset when we left her:

Drink, Shop & Do

There's a shop/cafe/bar in my area where you can drink, shop and get creative (do). It's in a listed building with grand high ceilings and original features. All the vintage furniture in the bar area are for sale and to get to this area you need to enter through the back of the small boutique, which sells ceramics, jewellery, homewares, stationary and other (lovely) stuff. I went with Cousin Caz and we were a bit snap happy, after a visit to the German Gymnasium with our German friend Sarina to check out the inspirational Vivian Maier exhibition.

Yellow Fever!

And my nephews, with their cute 'tattoos'. You can't really see the tatt clearly on the arm of youngest one, last pic is close up of tatt on eldest nephew. Apparently even after scrubbing it doesn't come off for weeks. Just thought you should know, in case you were thinking of getting one done ;) I remember when I was young, these fake tatts would just slide off when in contact with water.

"The Portable Garden"

There's an eccentric character who lives in our block. He creates unique "installations" with residents rubbish that he has scavenged. This is an example of his work, below - a portable garden. He left this "installation" outside the gate with a note, offering passer-bys to take it home with them.

Click on the pic for a more detailed look, you will be amazed!

Is it genius, or just plain weird? I showed the picture to Ellie at work and she said it was such a sweet idea, it almost bought a tear to her eye.

Work It

Woah! Haven't posted anything for a looooong while. Very slack. OK I admit I'm a slackasauros.

The other day at work, I was standing at the door when I saw a man looking with great interest at the branded Lacoste L!ve bike parked outside which belongs to the shop. He asked me if I own it, I explained it was the company's bike. Then he introduced himself as a photographer called Horst and that he has released a few books. He's working on a new project about Londoners and their bikes and asked if I would be interested in being photographed with the bike. My immediate thought was 'Yikes! How do I get out of this?!' (I'm not very good at being put on the spot), so I was being rather awkward, "um, maybe, yeah... It's best if you email us with your proposal first and the appropriate person will get back to you." Blah blah blah.  Thinking it wouldn't get the ok cos first of all it's not MY bike. So anyway, it got the go-ahead. I am flattered this photographer would like to photograph me with the bike (and it isn't even mine!)... But... Me and posing just don't go!

April so far ☺

Part I
This is what we did -
Walked and walked and walked, took pics, browsed some shops, enjoyed the sunshine, drank coffee..... (My new fave shoes by the way!):

This derelict site used to be where The Middlesex Hospital (opened in 1745) used to be, in Fitzrovia, until the vile Candy & Candy property developers demolished it to make way for luxury apartments, though their plan failed. Fools.

Part II
The next 3 pictures were taken in beautiful Doughty Street, the street where Charles Dickens lived for just 2 years (1837-39), during his time here he wrote The Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby and Oliver Twist. Silly me didn't even take any pictures of his house, only because there were tourists standing outside. So Dickens and I shared the same postcode - WC1, woop woop! If he were still alive he would be in my gang. What gang I hear you say? The Groovy Gang!

Waiting for my Salmon & Spinach tart:

This tree looked like it was growing blueberries, maybe it is:

This is one of my favourite period buildings, off Charterhouse Square. It's faded pink and has beautiful detail, they don't make 'em like they used to! Below used to be a pub:
