King Midas Sound

While we're on the subject of quality music (see post below), let me tell you all about a super talented girl I used to work with named Kiki. She is an illustrator and musician, oh and even had her own clothing line. I don't think I'll ever meet anyone as kooky as Kiki. She was always writing quirky and surreal lyrics and harmonising to whatever song was playing at work whilst hoovering. During this time she was in a band called Dokkebi Q, described as something like Japanese hardcore psychedelic heavy electro punk dub. They were successful and revered in the dubstep scene, they also performed at the prestigious SXSW '08 in Austin, Texas... Fast forward to the present, Kiki is now in King Midas Sound, the newest alter ego of Kevin Martin (best known as The Bug) and also a collaboration with vocalist Roger Robinson. They have been described as 'Bristol sound-inspired'. Craigski told me at the record shop he works at, KMS are popular with the customers. Woop! Congrats Kiki (and of course the rest of the KMS).

King Midas Sound: L-R Kevin, Kiki, Roger.

Album 'Waiting For You' released on Soul Jazz is out now.

Links

It's funny how you discover good music on the 'net when you're not even looking for it. Last night via a few links I discovered a splendid band from LA called Warpaint, for those in the know, this is old news. As I said in an earlier post, I'm out of the loop. So how did I make this discovery?

It began with the film 40 days and 40 nights. It was on TV and it caught my attention because I ♥ Josh Hartnett. It also stars Shannyn Sossamon. In the film they meet in a launderette. I wondered if Josh Hartnett dated her in real life? Out of curiosity and because I can, I google her name and check her wiki page which mentions she was in a band called Warpaint. Hmmn another Hollywood star - wannabe musician, I think to myself. She's not in the band anymore but I'm still intrigued. I click on the link and on another link which leads me to their myspace page, I watch their music videos and I'm rather impressed. I read more about them and it turns out they are signed to Rough Trade the company my Craigie works for. Nice! I pat myself on the back and congratulate myself for discovering Warpaint. The End.

222 Special

It's Saturday and it's my weekend off - Yesssss! During the week I never have time to make breakfast because I stay in bed for as long as possible leaving me just enough time for shower, make-up, coffee. My work is literally across the street from me but still I always manage to be 5 minutes late everyday. Okay I know I should set my alarm 5 minutes earlier but I'm set in my ways. So anyway I woke up this morning, stayed in bed for about an hour, eventually got up, put T4 on and made breakfast and freshly brewed cawffee. Mmmmn...

Above: My 222 special - 2 eggs 2 sausages 2 toast and (more than 2) BEANS!

I was disappointed with my fried eggs cos' when I cracked them the yolk broke and one of the eggs was bubbly. Don't you just hate that?!

3 Amigos

Had a pleasant evening with some sweet chums I used to work with and who I don't see often these days (partly my fault). Had one of those days, then met these two refreshing lovelies - we had a laugh, a cocktail, came up with a plan and everything was all good again.

Health Food Extravaganza!!

I'm about 6.5 on the healthy scale, not that great, so I'm super excited about today's healthy grocery selection. Check it check it out...

Above (a plethora of goodness): Butternut squash, courgette, fennel, advocado, orange, portobello mushroom, coriander, Pure Green Tea, tortilla wrap, and out of picture - beetroot, stuffed vine leaves, olives...

Above: Posh 'health' drinks

My fridge is full, okay my fridge is small but anyways fullest it's been in a while...
...And how much was it? Nowt! It was all for free, a health cafe unfortunately closed down - (part of a company I work for) and we were allowed to take some stuff. I took as much as I could carry in the small brown paper bags. Sweet! Don't know what to do with the fennel and butternut squash though. No idea. Time to google for some recipes.
