Vroom Vroom!

Watched Drive the other night with Sarina. Not only did Ryan look hot as always (we luuurrve him!), the film was fantabulous too. Soundtrack was good, very 80s. Check out the font they used for the title (above) and credits. I particularly liked this song...

Howdy

Sooo, what's happened since my last blog entry? I, um, turned a year older. I wanted to getaway, so we went to the Cotswolds, a place which is which is famed for it's idyllic beauty. Ha, 'idyllic beauty', sounds like an excerpt from a city break brochure or something...

Me in deep thought - 'How old am I?'

The Cotswolds covers a LARGE area and I was unsure which town/village to visit, so I randomly picked a town called Stroud. Well I thought, anywhere in the Cotswolds must be pretty, right? Well.. not quite.

The train journey there was promising, especially as we got closer to Stroud. Looking out the window approaching our destination, the scene was very picturesque, a contrast from the concrete ugliness of Swindon, just two stops before.

Unfortunately, when we left the station and entered the town of Stroud, it wasn't quite what I imagined. Although the small high street was surrounded by scenic greenery and hills, it was lined with shops such as Peacocks, 99p Store, Superdrugs, etc, etc. Not the small, independent, specialist and family run businesses that I expected. And no, the streets were not cobbled. Boo.

We walked around for a bit and checked out the 'Farmers Market', which was a tad disappointing. My heart was sinking. In desperation, Craigos asked one of the locals where was good to visit, she was like "What here?! There's not much here, I would take the bus to Nailsworth if I were you. It's much nicer. It's about a 20 minute ride".

So off to Nailsworth we went! She was right, it was much more Cotswolds-esque. Nailsworth saved the day!

Above: First impressions of Stroud were promising.

On the way to Nailsworth.

Imagine living in one of these houses - ooh!

I'm ill, at home, on a sunny day. It's alright though, relaxing on the sofa listening to Pavement and browsing on Etsy for ankle boots, Craigos is trying to catch a tan by the window haha!

Ho or Bo?

Just watched a film starring ♥Joaquin Phoenix♥

Photo from moviemonger.net

The film was the 'mockumentary' I'm Still Here. Even though his role in this movie required him to look like a vagrant, he was still mighty attractive. I came to the conclusion that a hunk (yes I said hunk) can never really appear hobo even if they try to, more like boho!

I ♥ This!

Liberty Print Beadnell Jacket, Barbour. A/W 2011 collection. I know that unfortunately Barbour jackets have become associated with East London 'hipsters', but I do like this. With my work being just around the corner from Liberty, I can not help myself from passing through this amazing department store full of delightful goods, during my lunch break. As we have an inaccessible toilet at work at the moment, I find myself 'going to the loo' (at Liberty's) so I can have a quick browse. Hehe.

Cousin Caz has the red roses version.

Young Souls

Went to an exhibition opening of Dean Chalkley's photography the other night with Caz & Saz.

"Famed for his iconic portraits of the world’s brightest music stars and compelling snapshots of youth subcultures, Chalkley’s latest body of work is presented by Art, Fashion and Culture media title 125 magazine. View the Young Souls short film Working to a theme based around Religion, Chalkley’s Young Souls touches on the culture of Northern Soul".

After a couple of complimentary elderflower & lime ciders each, we were feeling a tad peckish and ended up in a delightful Italian bakery/restaurant on Wardour street, called Princi. The food was displayed and was a wondrous sight to behold. Mouthwatering cakes and delicious pizzas and other extras.

Was a fun night. Sarina was upset when we left her:

Drink, Shop & Do

There's a shop/cafe/bar in my area where you can drink, shop and get creative (do). It's in a listed building with grand high ceilings and original features. All the vintage furniture in the bar area are for sale and to get to this area you need to enter through the back of the small boutique, which sells ceramics, jewellery, homewares, stationary and other (lovely) stuff. I went with Cousin Caz and we were a bit snap happy, after a visit to the German Gymnasium with our German friend Sarina to check out the inspirational Vivian Maier exhibition.
